Cove Stiffee FR 2009
Cove Stiffee FR 2009

It's stiff. That is a compliment if you know the frame. The fact is that if you are looking for something to breeze down the boardwalk on the Cove Stiffee probably is not the frame you want. If you want to tear across the boardwalk and then up a hill and then down a hill and then through the woods on an off-road trail and then maybe drop... well the Cove Stiffee FR can probably keep that up longer than you can in a single dose.
The Stiffee frame is known for its invariable strength. It is notable though that some experienced riders have said that the Stiffee has gotten soft in the most recent years. If that is true then one can only imagine what the classic Stiffee must have been like. The 2009 is still known among many to be one of the leaders in the all-around frames.
It is notable for its singular design. Being stiff is a good start especially if you are planning on hitting some bumps, holes and other unmentionables. There is more to making a leader though. Among the more is the design. The Cove Stiffee is made with a 66 degree angle that allows it to house a wide variety of forks and wheels up front. What you have there is the beginnings of a discerning biker's dream. A 140 MM fork is noted as working best though.
From the very front to the very back you will find design elements that confirm unquestionable strength. You will find a square-headed Easton RAD mainframe; you get more overlap at the head tube that way. You have CNC-machined precision toward the rear. The dropouts are designed to leave plenty of room even if you have large tires that pull up mounds of mud.
Despite the strength the frame is known to be easy to manage. If you need control then you will appreciate rolling on one of these. Whether you are leaning into soil or if you have left the ground behind, the shape and combination of just the components that you want will lend you confidence.
This frame is recognized by many to be a good choice even when purchasing used. Since the frame is known to last there is little that can render one useless. You can find some frame at real bargains. To purchase new however they are not known to be the least expensive option. It is often a good idea to plan your entire bike prior to purchasing a frame. This allows you to get an idea of what the bike will actually cost you to put together. If you find a sale you may want to reconsider the approach though. There is typically no shortage of quality compatible parts for a Stiffee. Besides, you can take your time once you have a frame that is immortal.
